WHO ARE WE ?

We are a Jabalpur based NGO. Although we started our activities way back in 2006, we formally registered ourselves as a Non-Government, Non-Profit Organization in 2016.

Why we do what we are doing

Because we all know that

    • Our natural resources are near depletion
    • Our planet is facing the threat of global warming
    • Our ozone layer is withering

All this is because of over-consumption and pollution due to consumerism.

We also know that

    1. The textile industry is one of the top-3 water wasting industries…8,500 litres of water are needed to produce a pair of jeans and 2,600 litres of water to produce a single T-shirt
    2. A quarter of the chemicals produced in the world are used in textiles
    3. 70 million barrels of oil are used each year to make the world’s polyester fiber, the most commonly used fiber in clothing.
    4. 150 billion garments are produced annually; 13 billion are trashed each year of which only 15% are recovered for recycling.
    5. A lot of this clothing ends up in the dump. The equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second.
    6. Washing clothes, meanwhile, releases 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles.

We are unique because

    1. We have added an economic and environmental angle to the concept of “Best out of waste “using traditional methods of fabric upcycling.
    2. We use rejected fabric as our raw material for skill development.
    3. We have designed and are producing out of this waste fabric an exclusive kit “NAVAGAT” for new born babies.
    4. We are providing a plastic free, eco-friendly, swadeshi, solution for the management of menstrual flow in the form of Eco-Stri sanitary pads and sanitary napkin kit.
    5. We also participate in the welfare schemes of the state – Aims and objectives of our organization include working with various government agencies for the welfare of underprivileged sections of the society. For achieving this objective, we work with ICDS Centers,Indian Redcross society, hospitals and other institutions.
    6. Fight against Mal-Nutrition- “The Vinoba Bhave Annadaan sankalp” is a program through which we provide ration, milk and at times medicines to poor and malnourished pregnant women, nursing mothers, Children and patients.

Our impact

When we Reuse and Recycle the existing garments and textiles at our NGO, we:

    1. Reduce the need for newly manufactured fibers.
    2. Reduce consumption of water, energy, dyes and chemicals, which reduces pollution, emission of greenhouse gases and eventually break the chain of processes that ultimately result into global warming.
    3. Reduce the amount of solid waste being dumped into landfill
    4. Prevent chemicals and microfibers getting into water bodies and oceans which will save marine life.
    5. Help the poor beneficiaries save some money which they can spend on their nutrition, health and education and thus contribute to general wellbeing of the society..
    6. Provide employment to women and school dropout girls through process of upcycling.
    7. Encourage creativity, innovation and product development.
    8. Provide clothing to new born babies in underprivileged families by transforming discarded and damaged clothes into cute baby shirts, caps, bedding, wipes, etc. 16 such articles are packed together in a gift hamper called “The NAVAGAT kit”. These kits are then distributed in government hospitals.

Imagine your rejected Kurta is the first garment of a newborn baby somewhere !
